Reading an excellent book called "Beyond the War on Invasive Species", which is excellent. It lays out the connections between chemical companies, government programs to eradicate exotic plants, and so-called conservation groups. I always think I'm a pessimist who distrusts government and corporations, but even so I am shocked. The book talks a lot about why these species thrive in disturbed places, and what their function is. The author takes a permaculture approach to dealing with these plants, seeing them as friend rather than enemy, or at worst, a symptom of things out of balance. Look around, see where you find "invasive plants' and weeds. Make your "enemy" work for you, or at least eat him!
