"Technology has so advanced, or retreated, depending upon ones' view, that some foods are almost pure ersatz"  --Ruth Winter, M.S., A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives

Ersatz means,  made or used as a substitute, typically an inferior one, for something else. Not real or genuine.

Food coloring, also known as artificial colors.  Food coloring (artificial) like Red dye No 3, come shaded with unnecessary risks.  Artificial dyes like Red Dye No 3.  are used to make processed products more appealing will make them more hazardous to your family's health .  They were once derived chiefly from coal tar but now extracted largely from petroleum products.

These artificial colors have a shady history with a number of them having been taken out of circulation as health hazards by the FDA after initially being declared harmless.  Researchers found that baby rats became hyperactive and showed diminished learning ability.

Here is an example:   Published: January 30, 1990

The Food and Drug Administration today banned many uses of Red Dye No. 3, saying studies had shown that very high doses of the color additive can cause cancer in laboratory animals.

Here is the article:  http://www.nytimes.com/1990/01/30/science/fda-limits-red-dye-no-3.html

Here is another example:  All uses of Red No. 3 in cosmetics are being banned

Link:  http://articles.latimes.com/1990-01-29/business/fi-917_1_fda-bans

This was banned from use in cosmetics and externally applied drugs after the FDA found it caused thyroid cancer in rats and other studies concluded it interferes with nerve impulses in the brain.   I want to remind you from my last article about food coloring,  that the MATERIAL DATA SAFETY SHEET showed that propylene glycol caused nerve damage.

Now take a look at this page, scroll down to the ingredients, they are still putting Red Dye No 3. in food coloring.

WATER, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, FD&C REDS 40 AND 3, AND 0.1% PROPYLPARABEN (PRESERVATIVE).

Artificial colors are a toxic ingredient for all of us.  It bothers me more than I can say that the New York times article said  "The actual risk posed by Red No. 3 is extremely small.   So it is OK to eat a food that is toxic because the actual risk is extremely small?   WRONG WRONG WRONG

I can only hope that we can change this for ourselves, our children and the planet.    In SEVEN GENERATIONS I would love to see a healthly human race and a healthy earth.  Remember these ingredients pollute our water and air and  belong in the hazardous waste dump

Peace To All,
