The past four months I have been training pretty hard to get ready for the mountains. I am close to being in the best shape of my life I believe. I have been consistent with good work with my Kung Fu material (save the dummy sequence), P90X personal work-out, cardio, stretching, and loading my backpack up with books to get ready for the coming beauty and adventures. In the midst of enjoying this boastful state of fitness, I found myself one afternoon with access to a heavy bag much like the ones Sifu Bronson has. I decided to push myself and spend an hour pounding that bag of sand with all I had. It felt awesome - wonderful really, for the first 30 minutes. The last 30 minutes that bag smirked at my fitness, it laughed at my power, and it felt like it was pounding me more than I was pounding it. I hadn't trained with a heavy bag for months. When the hour was done, the bag gently swung in the room mocking me as I lay on the floor. For three days now I have been sore. I was reminded of a wonderful life lesson. We can be fit. We can know our material. But unless we train our material with power, spot accuracy, and perseverance we won't have the functionality we hope for if/when the time comes we can't get away and need to use it. Thanks Mr. Heavy Bag. Hope to see you again soon.
