Understanding Kung Fu for life, health and self defense
I wanted to drop a line to connect with everyone at the Mountain Warrior Kung Fu Academy. It has been awhile since most of you have seen me. This is due to a new season. My wife and I are attempting to finish our doctoral program by December. This means that we have shifted gears to make big blocks of time to allow for creativity to flourish. We are tackling the cultural problem of how information overload is effecting our lives. The best resource we have found so far is called, "What the Internet is Doing to our Brains: The SHALLOWS." Fascinating stuff. More on that later.
This new season has brought new employment as well. I am working a 8:00am - 5:00pm job in a cubicle to make ends meet while we finish our schooling. I never realized how much this lifestyle can suck the life out of you. I have had to be quite intentional in keeping a healthy rhythm in life. Here is what I have come up with ...
5:15am Up and leaving for the office.
6:00am Working out on campus. (P90X and Kung Fu material)
8:00am Sitting in my cube
10:00am Walk around campus
10:10am Back in my cube
12:00noon Basketball or Kung Fu material
1:00pm Back in my cube
3:00pm Walk around campus
3:10pm Back in my cube
5:00pm Head home
5:45pm Play with my daughter and allow my wife to train in her martial arts
9:00pm Closing the night up.
Even with all these insertions of activity, I find that sitting that much (first time that I have had to do this in my life) is trying to change my body and mind. My co-workers thought I was crazy with so much activity, water to drink, and eating all day long little meals at first. Now many are asking questions on how to improve their energy levels, relationships, and overall joy in life. Can't wait till I can get back to the community and train with everyone.
