I thought I would do a short post on building up your immune system.  I have seen many many posts of people getting the flu this year.  A lot of them were ones that got a flu shot (which I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!)   But that is for another blog.    

 Building up your immune system, will help you ward off the cold or flu or keep you from getting it.  If the process of building up your immune system to keep colds and flus away is new to you and the remedies below.  Keep in mind it takes time to build up your up your immune system.  Please do not give up if you happen to get sick.  Over time these herbal solutions/wellness protocol will build up your immune system and therefore you will stay healthier or recover more quickly.  

Vitamin D 

Vitamin D is a hormone produced in the body and used extensively by almost every cell in our body.  When people come to me because they are tired of being sick, I recommend that they get tested to see what their vitamin D level is.  I would also recommend that it is by a medical doctor who understands how to correct a vitamin D deficiency or a Naturopath.  There are a lot of doctors who do not understand how to correct a vitamin D deficiency and will leave you at a low level.

Nourshing Herbal Infusions

I highly recommend herbal infusions.  They are jam packed with essential vitamins and minerals for tonifying effects on the respiratory system, urinary system, liver and gallbladder and heart.  I infuse nettle about every other day.   Also, try red raspberry, oatstraw and red clover.

Astragalus Root: 

Astragalus Root  has been used for thousands of years to support the immune system and strengthens weak lungs.   It gently supports our immune system.  This is something I have been using by adding it to our soups.  I have been making the energizing bone broth twice a week.   I highly recommend doing this!  

Special Note:  If you happen to get sick it is not recommended to take it during an actual sickness because it can feed the illness, driving it deeper into the body.  If you want to make the energizing bone broth and you have become sick just omit the astragalus root.

Eat Whole, fresh, Organic Foods

Please do this as much as possible. Especially, avoid anything that has soy, corn, canola.  Organic or not never eat Canola!   Think Green Foods!! Green Green Green.  Support your local organic farmers.

Avoid Sugar.............................. 

Stop living your life from one sugar fest to the next.  Cold and flu season kick in because most everyone starts eating sugar from October to April.. 

Nothing suppresses the immune system like sugar.  There is one more thing that does suppress your immune system and that is petroleum products. 

REST...Rest, rest..

EXERCISE

It just has to be a part of your life, like brushing your teeth. 

WASH YOUR HANDS

Do not use hand sanitizer   Hand sanitizer's are very toxic. It saddens me to no end that this stuff is pushed everywhere. If I am standing in line at the grocery store and the cashier just put hand sanitizer on I will leave and go to another check stand.  I am not interested in them touching my items or smelling it.   Use regular soap (we use Dr. Bronners)  and sing your ABC's while you wash.  If you do not have a great habit of washing your hands,none of the list up above is going to protect you.
