What is self-defense?
We must be very clear about this issue to understand true Kung Fu. In our Kung Fu school we take a very holistic approach to the question “What is self-defense”? We see self-defense as the process of keeping ourselves from being harmed in any way. This, of course, means defending ourselves against physical attack. But, in the holistic approach, it also means mental, emotional and dietary self-defense. I would add that defense of our natural environment would be very important as well.
So, self-defense in the holistic sense means defending ourselves against anything that could bring us harm in any way.
Physical self-defense training is at the core of our program. But it seems silly to be training awesome self-defense techniques and then, through poor diet choices, be hit with heart disease.
Being injured or killed by a bad guy means our physical training was inadequate. Being injured or killed by our own poor choices means that our practice of true self-defense has been inadequate. The sad truth is that most of us are our own worst enemy.
Here at the Mountain Warrior Kung Fu Academy we are dedicated to battling not just a potential physical attack. We are dedicated to fighting all types of harm that may befall us.
