How To Be Safe, Have Food, Have Skills During Civil Unrest

How to Be Safe During Civil Unrest

The world feels like it is on fire especially as the election draws near.  Violence is increasing and it is not just happening in the big cities, the awakening of unrest is happening, and really if we took a step back, we would think we were in a hollywood movie, but without pay or freedom.

The topic of Civil Unrest is a trending topic.

This is a topic that involves many layers of self defense, so lets get into this.

Summarize what events are going on locally, what is going on in your state, in America and the world to help you realistically design a protocol for you and your family's safety and future.

The word "events" is defined by the violent protests, such as the ones in Portland, an increase of violence all around, a second possible shut down (because the government elites need to squash us more), panic buying, possible food shortages, the high possibility of increased riots close to the election and after, and the fact that people are on edge which is creating more mental illness and rage .

Do not procrastinate or ignore what is going on.

Keep your car full of gas, keep the tank full, treat ½ mark as empty and refill as soon as you have half a tank.
Watch out for October surprises, this could be anything such as the doom of another shut down, games between candidates that trigger crowds, food and supply panic buying etc.

What to Do Before the Election: 11 WEEK PLAN

Your 11-week (maybe more) plan: Top off food and water supply
Have a plan to have what you need for 11 weeks. This is the period between election day and inaugural day (Wednesday January 20th)
You will need to plan your meals for your family for 11 weeks. Write out a meal plan for each day. Think breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. Write this schedule out for 11 weeks. Side note, this can be a great homeschool project. Make sure you have enough calories to get through the 11 weeks. It is also important that you are not eating a lot of sugar and junk food, also you might want to consider getting a big bottle of multivitamins and protein powder.
Write out what you will need for water- Minimum 1 gallon a day per person, per day. One gallon of water a day gives, ½ gallon to drink and then the rest for sanitation.
THIS ESTIMATE DOES NOT INCLUDED COOKING YOUR FOOD WITH WATER
Again, write out 11 weeks of meals and water for consumption

Call your local city water provider to find out if you will still have water if the power grid goes down.  If they say you will still have water you might want to still put some water away, just in case.

Just In Case.....

Know What You Need:

Every family has different needs, look at those needs and plan accordingly.

Herbs, teas, food storage, medications, ammunition, toilet paper, paper towels, wipes, matches, candles, camp stove, propane, cleaning supplies, cast iron dutch oven, knowledge on rocket stoves, blankets(if power goes out you might be cold), flash lights, head lamp, batteries, kids needs, elders needs, special needs, pets needs, consider a bidet, generator, fill up gas cans, water filter, life straw, first aid supplies, seeds, books on local wild and weedy medicine and edibles, etc.

Familiarize yourself with the use of anything that is new to you, do not wait to do it when it is needed. Example if you purchased a cast iron dutch oven, start experimenting with it NOW. This also could be a fun homeschool project, a how to cook outside project. The same would go with a generator, rocket stove etc.

Keep things as familiar as possible for your children. Try to keep your daily routine in the house, stock up on foods that you normally eat, board games, art etc. But at the same time, they also need to know all the emergency plans, other wise you might be safe but your children are not.

Know Your Polling Locations:
This could be hot spots for conflicts, stay away from these areas. It only takes ONE crazy person to start a lot of trouble in these places. If you are voting, get it done EARLY to avoid trouble. Peak time for voting crowds is typically around 11:00 AM
PLAN TO BE HOME ON ELECTION DAY
If possible be with your family away from urban areas.

Know Your Urban Escape Routes:
Have a 72 hour bag ready, this also includes prepping bags for your family.  Store them in a place that you can grab them quickly.

If you travel often, plan to have a basic car kit in your car (similar to a 72 hour bag).  You will need to make seasonal changes to your stuff, example would be if it is winter, make sure you have some things in your car kit, that will keep you warm
Map out multiple routes out for your area, should an urban area become compromised
Do you have the ability to navigate with your car – Side note learn to read maps and not just rely on your phone or computer.

Can You Be Somebody Who Can Rescue Yourself Without Relying On Somebody?

Apply these questions, to situations that may arise.

Should I – Should I get involved with this
Can I - ABILITY
May I – What does the law say you can do
Again, are you prepared to be able to get away – Can you rescue yourself? Ask yourself these questions?
Do you have enough gas in the car?
Do you have the ability to navigate different routes with your car?  Don't rely solely on technology!

Do you have back pack (like a 72 hour bag) in your car or a basic survival kit so that you are not caught off guard.

Do you have a good pair of shoes in your car, just in case you have to start walking
Do you have basic medical skills?
Do you have medical care supplies?
Do you have a flashlight in your car?
Do you carry your firearm or is it in the car or at home?
Do you have a less lethal weapon like pepper spray?

Do you have winter supplies in your car, like a wool blanket etc.

If you leave these factors out when you are under duress, you could make some bad decisions
Ways To Protect Your Home
1. Know your region, town, city, know the lay of the land
2. Neighborhood – know the neighbors, what is their back story, what do they believe, know how to shut down the roads
3. How to control your safety, in your home, on your property
4. Walls, doors, windows: Are they secure? Locked?
5. Safety inside the house, don’t have spots around house where the bad guy can hide, have a safe room
6. Make house well lit.
7. Make your home look like it is occupied
8. Barking dog
9. Home security system, even fake signs, door security bar, door alarm
10. DON’T SHOW THAT YOU HAVE STUFF THEY WANT!!!!!
11. If car is outside of house do not leave unlocked

12. Weapons - guns etc.

Bug in is better than bug out.

That being said you still need a bug out bag just in case you have to leave.  This is a 72 hour bag

I am adding a few more videos that I feel are important to watch.  Don't just watch follow through with get yourself and family prepared.

Also do not put off learning how to do medical things, such as first aid, herbs for health issues  etc.
