Some thoughts on having a successful Kung Fu journey.

#1. You must be definite in your goal setting. If you study Kung Fu with no chief aim in mind then you will most certainly fail. Set the goal of becoming a Black Belt. If you are a Black Belt then set your goal as the next degree of Black Belt (there are ten degrees in our system). Now remind yourself of your goal consistently, believe that you will accomplish it, and there is very little that could ever stand in your way of success.

#2. You must build and practice the art of self confidence. One of the simplest and most direct ways of doing this is to simply repeat to yourself (auto suggestion) your goal. Affirm (inwardly) that nothing can stop you from the accomplishment of your goals. Over time you will accomplish the goals that you have set. And with each success your confidence will grow.

#3. The habit of consistent (daily) practice. Our lives are determined by our habits. To succeed in Kung Fu you must develop the life long habit of daily practice. Without practice you will never build the storehouse of knowledge and ability that are required to be successful in Kung Fu.

#4. Initiative - Without initiative you will not focus on practicing intelligently. When you utilize initiative in your practice you pay attention to what you need the most work on and then try to get partners (before or after class) to work on those subjects the most. With initiative you network with other students to meet outside of our class times to practice/study what you have learned. When you develop and practice the skill of having initiative you are almost certain of success.

I will leave you to contemplate these four things now. Goal Setting - The Building of Confidence - The Habit of constant Practice - And the Practice of Initiative.

I will have more for you on this subject next post.

Yours in the arts,
