Workout Alternative?

This week I had a mission! I had to dig a trench in the green house that was 44 inches wide , 27 inches deep, and the entire length of the green house which is  14 feet.  Now to protect my back I decided to do our Kung Fu stretching just before and take a 10 min break every hour to hydrate and do more stretching. I took extra mangnesium and had my daughter Mel bring me green tea at break times. Liz and PJ were on the dirt bucket brigade as the dirt had to be hauled outside. Very tedious.…

So far so good!

Todays background radiation check was performed at Waylen Island in Oregon on the coast. The air had a 10 CPM radiation reading and the water had a 20 CPM radiation reading. Still with in safe limits. So head on over and enjoy this area of the coast while you still can. This is not actually an island but a beautiful inlet with an awsome hiking trail going completely around.

Bye Bye Coffee

Well, I will be giving up the one last, obvious bad habbit I have after watching a video a friend posted on caffiene.  I really want to save what I have left of my exhausted adreanal glands so as of NOW, it will be home made herbal teas with nut milks, also home made of course. However, if you don't hear from me for a few days, please plan an intervention, as I may still be trying to crawl to my computer!

Healthy Living Rewards

Even though living a healthy life style has perks, it also involves what others might consider as denying yourself earthly pleasures, like not smoking or drinking, both of which are addictive, toxic poisons. But the rewards are a greater chance at ageing well and healthy! My 66 year old hubby works as a carpenter and maintenance man for the Federal Park System. He will be packing a 75 lb back pack containing a battery for the radio tower, up to Shriners Peak next…

It was a blustery Kung Fu kind of day!

To day on this first day of the week, was a great day on Spirit Mountain Farms! Much accomplished! After Liz and I did cardio up Spirit Mountain, we came home and began green house work followed by our treating the cats for ear mites with our home made natural ear mite killer! (Their Majesties were NOT pleased) then we mowed, cut firewood with the chain saw. THEN it was time to cut the trees that had fallen down across the paths and hack the trail to the river down. After wards we made a…

Chronicles Of The Procrastinating Ninja

Annnnnd the score iiiiiis..... Ninja 4, Procrastination 1! SOB!!!!  4 days I did my cardio and today I missed it!  Wait just a moment while I find some goat cheese to serve you with my whine! Today was not the best day for the Procrastinating Ninja!

It all started innocently enough.  The covers were soooo warm and my back hurt.  I stretched out from under the covers and jumped up to shut off my obnoxious alarm.  Then when I went down stairs I realized I was out of coffee!!! I am not…

Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

For those who have never heard the phrase in the title of this blog, it means the same as, "Practice What You Preach". Sustainable Living means moving more and more towards independence and self reliance. In an effort to implement cost saving measures here on Spirit Mountain Farm, we had decided to make only two trips in per week. 27 miles to the grocery store is quite a lot of fuel consumption.

Therefor I said all groceries would be purchased in amounts to get us through…

Sustainable Independence

Freedom from the traps and snares of any culture depends entirely on your ability to take care of yourself. Learning to do those things that are easily learned can free you from those traps and snares.

Today, child number 3 of 7 replaced the inlet valve on the upstairs toilet and replaced the broken float valve inside as well. Not just that floating bulb but the entire inside mechanizum. She can also change the oil in her car, has replaced the alternator on another and…

The Procrastinating Ninja Update

Finally! I talked myself into implementing a schedual of cardio I think I can keep! Talk about procrastination! But, I have successfully completed 4 days of every other day cardio with the kids walking up Spirit Mountain and I am now up to 15 mins uphill with out stopping!!!  And today I didn't even gasp and wheeze all the way up, only about 1/3 of the way! Major improvement! Weight is starting to drop too! I have also been green juicing every day as well. Feeling really good! I am comitted…

Really Listen

Listening to your children is something that our culture does less and less of as a whole. The only way to really know someone is to listen. After our cardio hike up Spirit Mountain, we began our descent amid the chirping of the birds, the wet smells of the lush green forest and the sound of running water in the stream adjacent to the logging road. I was lagging behind children numbers 5 and 6, (being very careful of my knees on the decent) when I…

Confessions Of A Procrastinating Ninja

Working hard towards great accomplishment.  Many people in my circle of influence have often congratulated me on my accomplishments in life. When ever I feel down I can always count on those folks to list the things I have done in my life and express amazement, always making me feel better.

But it is not enough anymore. I know what I am capable of were I not such a procrastinator. This blog, (which I wanted to put off until tomorrow because I am already running…

Hurts So Good!

As easy as falling off a log? I wonder who thought falling was easy? I had a private lesson on falling Tuesday. My mistake  was thinking it would be "easy" to learn to fall. My second mistake was thinking I could do it a few hours before my regular Kung Fu class! I mean wouldn't it be just like a warm up for Kung Fu? No problem!

Problem! Two days later I am still soaking in Epsom Salts hot baths! When I woke up at night to turn over I had to grab the mattress and grit my teeth as I…

Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game. Michael Jordan

Play time outside is more important for your kids than any academic training they may receive and the ability to play, create and invent is dependent on your child's appreciation of nature.

Our culture sends it's children into a formal academic situation far too soon. Children are not physiologically ready for these formal settings until the age of about 13. Why? People have many different learning modalities. Some love to learn through touch. This is called tactile learning. Some…

Tick Tock Goes The Clock

The days have started to increase in length and now is the time that my farm business begins to yawn and stretch and awaken with the spring! I am naturally a hibernator. If I were an animal I would crawl into a cave somewhere when winter came, all fat from the fall feeding frenzy and stay curled up warm and comfy till spring.  Being Human I am not allowed that luxury!

I constantly battle with myself to plan and implement things for the coming farm season. I have started the beds in my…

Alternative Solvents

I detest WD40. It smells noxious, is very toxic and until now I thought a must have on my farm. Especially since I tend to forget and leave my tools exposed to the elements! Bad Choctaw Medicine Woman! I found a pair of my wire cutter/pliers outside and solidly rusted closed. Dang! Then it crossed my mind that DMSO is a solvent. So I went to my medicine cabinet, smeared some DMSO on the aformentioned tool and viola! Not only did it work just as well and as quickly as WD40, there was zero…

Fighting Illness the Kung Fu Way

So what does the healer in your house hold do when she or he gets sick? Wednesday I began to feel very tired so I skipped Kung Fu and came home to rest and drink plenty of fluids. Then at 2 am I woke with throbbing aches in all sinus areas of my face and a full blown headache! Oh no! I refuse to succumb to a sinus infection! I set up myself on the couch and recruited Melody to bring me fluids and supplements. I stayed put for 48 hours taking 500 mg of vitamin C every half hour. (Yes…
