Private lesson

Friday I was fortunate to have had a two hour private lesson with Sifu. He began by giving me guidance for my growth in the Kung fu post Black belt journey. He pointed out that it is important to keep practicing the basics, but to really focus on the movement of each action. We also discussed other growth secrets, which will help me work toward the ultimate goal of mastery.

After giving me guidance, he helped fine tune my wooden dummy set. I learned that there is a fine line between…

Spectacular hike!

Just a taste of our awesome hike yesterday.
Sunny day for the most part, then thunder clouds came in. Great view of mount Jefferson. Very serine high mountain lakes, about seven of them. Only got bitten three times by mosquitoes on the way out.we roasted organic hotdogs with sourdough wrapped around them over the firepit. Very fun.

Saturday morning sweat!

While it was still shady this morning I dove into some Kung fu training. I started with each beginning form and did each one four times, forty minutes. I am trying to work up to at least one hour of forms training so I can take the first forms test.

Next I headed over to my wooden dummy and worked him over for twenty minutes. I tied my fastest time, then I beat that time by three seconds. I think the only reason I beat my best time is because during that set the dummy kicked me in the knee… Continue

Oregon made shoes

I found a shoe source made in Corvallis Oregon. The company seems very environmentally friendly. I do not have a pair of their shoes, yet, but I'm interested. These shoes are close to moccasins in shape. Here is a link. http://www.softstarshoes.com/good-citizen

4 hour workout

David and I just finished a four hour workout. We are both preparing for our Black Belt test. We set a timer for two minutes on most of the drills including each Of the five Hubud switches and half beats. Also two minutes on each Sinwali set. We bruised each other up on Bon Sow drill and the empty hand flow drills. Good thing I brought Dit Da Jow, we both used it. On Sinwali Earth six, David hit my shin but I worked through it, David said "was that your leg? It felt like a stick." I was just… Continue

This is in response to Sifus' special request video.

For the past few months I started eating out of my own big salad bowl at work. I also use my own fork. For the past few years I have been bringing my own water bottle to drink out of at work so I don't use the disposable cups. I'm trying to cut down on my environmental foot print.

Day off

Day off from work, not from work out. 5 mile hike, 2.5 miles up a forest road and back down again, walking, jogging, and sprinting. Need to do more sprints they were tuff. Did form Yet Sum five times on hike, and a one minute horse stance at the end of the hike just to see if I could. I could. Organic salad after hike to replenish my body. Hope to see EVERYBODY at the hike this Sunday. Happy day.

Technique chart

I just finished hitting everything in the technique chart up to my belt rank for the month. Time to start over and practice it again. Today so far, double stick drills, wing chun trapping drills, single stick free flow, (David Gardner helped me out), JKD and Dynamic lock flow, single stick drills (5 part, Punyo Sumbrada, and Hubud). Practice, practice, and more practice. Happy day.

762 kicks

Sifu asked us in a email today to do at least 20min free flow, 40 push-ups, etc. I calculated the kicks out to be 760 total kicks for my belt rank, green. So I threw in 2 extras so I wouldn't be doing the bare minimum. That was a tuff mountain to climb today, but I feel great that I accomplished it. 762 KICKS! As you can probably tell I've never done that before.

2 year anniversary

I joined Moutain Warrior Kung Fu 2 years ago today. I think it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Thank you Sifu. I am a Green Belt now, going to every class I can and taking private lessons once a month to further my knowledge of the Kung Fu Arts. I encourage all you warriors to take private lessons, they help give you an understanding to the techniques that we learn in class and so much more. Sifu reveals the secrets a little at a time each private lesson, but a little is all you need… Continue

Herbal remedies class was great!

The class yesterday was very enjoyable. I left with so much product and knowledge, I feel I should have paid triple what the class cost. Sue and Sofia, your very generous and I apreciate all the time and effort you spent to make the class fun and entertaining. Thank you.

15 min

I had 15 minutes, so I dusted off my Nunchaku and was happily surprised that all the drills flowed pretty smooth. I only dropped them once, left handed grip switch, Grrrrrr.
