A family farm in rural Michigan may be shut down by a Government Entity who has passed a law stating that the breed of hogs they are raising are a threat to neighboring croplands. Power/Love

€œPower without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” -- Martin Luther King Jr.

While Sue sit's in the forest making tea,

You Are In Charge

My morning starts with exercise for myself and the animals. There are times that push up the mountain seems so freaking hard. Lately, due to half my body not wanting to work right, it feels like I have fallen backward. It feels like I am back at square one Lately, I have to fight back the little voice that wants to quit, wants to cry, wants to be grumpy and it sucks. But, I don't quit, I might cry and I try to fight off being grumpy. I am thankful…

Can You Think and Paint At The Same Time?

Toxic metals such as lead and mercury are no longer allowed in paint.  However, reading the labels on the cans of some types of paint will still reveal warnings about other toxic substances, such as solvents, which can cause brain damage.

The Franklin Institute asks, in an article on the history of lead, why painting has long been such a toxic activity.  "For some reason, paint seems to be the delivery system of choice for brain damage. Will future archaeologists be baffled by…

My daughter loves Kung Fu

I just wanted to make it public - Johanna loves being at the school. Those of you who are there on Mondays and Wednesdays have been witness. She has class at five, then sits through my six o'clock class, and then I have to tear her away to get home at all. Even though she hasnt had dinner or done her homework or practiced the piano yet, she wants to stay. She gives me a hug and raves, "mommy, I just LOVE Kung Fu!!" I've never seen her react like that to anything. I have to practically drag her… Continue

How Sweet Drinks Add Up

To fully understand the impact of sugary beverages, consider how the extra calories from these drinks add up and translate into pounds.

If a child drinks one soda and two glasses of Kool-Aid each day, the child is consuming roughly:

150 calories for the glass of soda

240 calories for two glasses of Kool-Aid (120 calories each glass)
