Thoughts on Kung Fu #2

The essence of Kung Fu is to live a meaningful life. Do you look at each part of your life and see deep meaning?

I'm talking about meaning in every breath. In every step. In every action.

Kung Fu, understood properly, is about bringing mindfulness, presence and sincerity into every aspect of our lives.…

Thoughts on Kung Fu #1

At 211 degrees water is hot. At 212 degrees water boils. For your Kung Fu to be strong it must be like boiling water. If you do not keep the flame high (with constant training) it turns tepid.

The Last Hike Of Our Winter Hikes Was A Epic 8 Mile Hike

Yesterday's 8 mile hike was incredible. What a memory! The wind was energetic and gave enormous energy. We had figured it was about 60 mph, but after reading this article it might have been more. We literally felt like we were flying in some parts of our hike. After the hike we cooked organic food in the parking lot and drank shots of fire cider (non-alcoholic drink that is made with apple cider vinegar, horseradish, garlic, cayenne, onions, ginger and ginseng). At 6:00 pm we were all…

Still Here And On My Path

I am still here, still sticking to my goals, still working on my forms and still getting ready for my first forms test.

I have not blogged lately because I had my niece come up and visit for a week.  Trying to keep up with my workouts and keep her busy was a big challenge.

Because it is vitally important to me to get my niece outside and away as much as possible from computers and out in nature I had set up several hikes and outdoor activities.  …

Forms Workout and Healthy Food Recipe

I am still on track with my forms workout   I was up the mountain early this morning and I did my workout. Sat and drank tea, listened to the most beautiful song birds, watched a humming bird and enjoyed the beautiful sun.

Breakfast was organic pasta, organic eggs (ours) and sage pesto.  The sage pesto recipe has many healthy benefits and is really yummy.  It has parsley, cilantro and sunflower seeds in it.…

Self Defense and Ageing

For many people ageing is synonymous with the loss of ability. Ability to jump as high, bend as low, kick as fast etc... Yes we all will age and, yes, we will become less able to do many of the things that were possible when we were younger. ( On a physical note, it is very important to continue striving for our highest level of ability no matter what limitations may come our way. This is an important part of growing old gracefully).

This short article is specifically meant to…

The Zen of Pad Drills

Pad drills, at their highest level, should be practiced as a meditation. A state of focused oneness with the drill is our main goal. When a student reaches this state of oneness (focus) with the drill, time blur's. There is no thought of self, other, the pads. Total focus is on oneness and perfection of movement/self in the moment. Through great dedication, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to self. Each student has the capability of reaching both great physical technique in their…

BPA In Your Garden?

A few plus years ago we bought a new garden hose for our Kung Fu School business.  I hooked it up and right away all this white looking liquid was coming through the hose and itsmelled terrible.  It was toxic !  That was my wake up call that another thing in my life needed to be banned.  It was time to do some research and find a safe alternative.  At that point we purchased for our home use, hoses that were semi-safe.

Another wake up call for…

Women"s/Girls Self Defense

This is something that I wrote in response to a women asking what practical measures could be taken to better safeguard the women of our society. My answer to her question is rather blunt and terse. I think that we all need to look at self defense for women as way more important than we are seeing today.

Should thorough self defense training be required for all girls and young women? Take a look at the rape statistics and then you answer that question. I keep hearing from the mom's…

What is a "Warrior"

Most of the time when someone hears the term "Warrior" they automatically conjure up images of knights in armor or ancient samurai doing battle with an evil foe. And, while that image is partly correct, it is greatly limited in it's scope.

To be on the path of being a warrior we most certainly need to train our minds and bodies to be as powerful in battle as possible.…

Update On Robert Frisbee

As of last night:

The CT scan for Robert Frisbee showed amazing results. The swelling has decreased dramatically, and the heart seems to begin repairing a tear. They are going to try and push off the surgery for five days. Unfortunately his blood pressure is still high and the CICU has requested no more visitors except family. Please keep those candles lit…

Your mission

It's Sunday night, and I am getting ready for the next week. What will I teach my students that will impact their lives? I work hard to bring a positive message to all of my students every class. Whether it is the Mighty Monkeys or the Forms class or everything in between. This week I would like to ask all of my students to take on the mission of creating the most positive week possible. This is something that I work at for myself and what I  encourage others to do all of the time. But this…

Student Needs Help

Tonight I am writing an email that I hope to never have to write again. One of my students ( Robert Frisbee ) is in ICU at Saint Vincent's medical center. He is facing a very dangerous operation to save his life. He is a very young man with twins on the way. Staying alive is the only option that I can contemplate for him.

I am asking my students to do two things. One, join us in praying, meditating, sending positive energy or just thinking…

The great battle

We are in the midst of a great battle and most people do not even know that it is going on.This battle is for your health, your families health and the health of the planet.

The bad guys in this battle are very rich and powerful. their agenda is to feed you unhealthy foods and inject you with poisons. As they make Billions (maybe Trillions) by providing the poisons that you ingest or the injections that you accept. The bad guys spend millions to convince you that these foods and…

Injury

This morning, while doing my regular morning routine to get to the Kung Fu school, I strained a muscle/tendon in my hand and forearm. I was already warmed up from the mornings activities. I had been up since about 4:30 AM hunting the…

The chisels task

Many martial artists mistake the tool for the task.

Imagine a fine set of wood chisels. These chisels are well made and the owner keeps them sharpened and clean. Ready for use. The owner of these chisels brings friends and family over to look at his beautiful chisels. He puts each chisel in a frame and hangs it on the wall. He may even go so far as to build a shrine around his chisels and worship them.

Like the owner of the fine, high quality, chisels. A martial artist that…
