Understanding Kung Fu for life, health and self defense
This past week I came in to show Sifu Bronson the new form I have been working on for about 8 weeks. If felt like I was a young author seeking out J.R.R. Tolkien to talk about a chapter I had finished. Sifu is careful with critique on the self-created forms wanting the practitioner to have full creative freedom. I felt as though my form was solid, but weak in a few areas, but being a young author of forms, I couldn't see where I could take the story of my form to higher levels. I was bold…

Starting this Friday I will be taking a winter break from the desk and computer. It is my time to renew my ideas and my spirit. I will be spending time creating my new health program, hiking, planning next years garden, reading, making projects, and crotchet. This special time for my family is important to bring back creativity to our minds (screen time burns out creativity).
I will be back on line …

The morning was cool, (35 degrees) calm and misty. Feeling a bit low on energy I decided to move manure first. I knew after several wheel-barrel trips my mind and body would warm up and wake up. Robbins are one of my favorite birds and I love how they arrive when spring is about to happen. I heard a Robbin, and I felt a stir of excitement. I was not sure if it was one of the few that hang out here for the full winter, or will it be one of many that will bring the song of spring. The…

The question is whether we are to be tourist or participants in our heritage. I am interested in the question, because I believe it to be an eminently practical one. I do not believe that tourists can preserve anything, including themselves, for very long. And one of the tragedies of the modern world is that it has made us tourists of our own destiny. It has taught us to turn to the past for diversion rather than instruction. It has taught us to look into our inheritance for curiosities…

About three weeks ago I was playing basketball in a tournament and took a good shot to the knee Wednesday night. We ended up winning, but had two games on the next night to gain the championship. We were playing a more talented teams on Thursday, but I knew if we played together we could win with our attitudes, effort, and chemistry. Thursday came around and my knee was still sore and originally decided not to play. Our semi-final game was a challenge and we were getting smashed in the 1st…

Tea is quite likely the oldest drink in the world. It is said that a person brought tea to their people when, heating water to drink, some branches fell into the pot. Pulling the pot from the fire and waiting for it to cool slightly before they were able to pull the leaves out, the leaves steeped in the water and tea was born. Tea has maintained its integrity and charm ever since.
Infused with any herbs you like, teas can…

My wife and I are now in Namibia. While Oregon is settling into the wet and cold, Namibia is heading into the hot and dry. Hopefully, it will be the hot and wet as the country is in the midst of its worst drought in 30 years.
Fundamentally, life here is the same as life at home. We work, we play, we…
