Understanding Kung Fu for life, health and self defense
I am still here, still sticking to my goals, still working on my forms and still getting ready for my first forms test.
I have not blogged lately because I had my niece come up and visit for a week. Trying to keep up with my workouts and keep her busy was a big challenge.
Because it is vitally important to me to get my niece outside and away as much as possible from computers and out in nature I had set up several hikes and outdoor activities. …

Today I settled into what may be my new rhythm for awhile. I did each of the first 12 forms giving attention to technical detail. Once that was completed I did the first form at tai chi speed until it flowed nicely. I then did the first form as fast I as could until found a way to control my breathing while going fast. I will continue with the same rhythm in two days and focus on the second form in the same manner. This way I get to both visit each form and explore depth in one…

This past weekend my wife earned her black belt at a school that must not be named and I took my 2nd forms test on my way to the 2nd degree black belt at Mountain Warrior Kung Fu Academy. Both my wife and I have found great joy in the pursuit of milestones during our lives. Milestones can take many shapes and forms and these two tests are important ones for us. We are already setting our sites on our next martial art milestones.
Milestones gives us something to go after,…

Today, I realized my whirl wind kicks look like drunken whirl wind. I want my whirl wind kick to be executed at my best for my forms test. On that note I have been practicing my whirl wind kicks right and left leg after my forms work out.
During my forms workout today I worked on lowering my stances and breathing. I focused on the beautiful energy around me and used that to get through my forms.
I am still having issues with my right leg following along with me.…

There are only a few women that I look up to as role models, Rosa Parks, Keiko Fukuda, and Vandana Shiva.
Today, I am bringing you the strength and knowledge from Vandana Shiva
One big reason is we (all humans) need to change our lives if we want real change to happen. One of the biggest issues on our plant is our food system, what we eat and how it affects the environment.
This video is an Interview with Dr Vandana Shiva, one of the world's foremost…

I am still on track with my forms workout I was up the mountain early this morning and I did my workout. Sat and drank tea, listened to the most beautiful song birds, watched a humming bird and enjoyed the beautiful sun.
Breakfast was organic pasta, organic eggs (ours) and sage pesto. The sage pesto recipe has many healthy benefits and is really yummy. It has parsley, cilantro and sunflower seeds in it.…

Most of you know that I have MCS, I have good days and bad. Because of my MCS, I was having nerve issues in my right leg last night and this morning I was frustrated with how tired my legs were.
I decided that I needed to go on our longer route up the mountain. I have a tendency to make myself do more exercise when I am having MCS issues. It pushes the circulation in my body and I sweat, therefore I am pushing out the toxins.
I was not happy with my stances today. My…

The spring/summer days leaves me working outside till sun down. For those of you who are paying attention, you know that the sun does not come down early. We are heading towards the longest day of the year. My life work on the farm is moving at a fast pace. …

Last night the little devils that speak in your ear were trying to talk me into taking a break. They were yelling loud and clear. They worked hard all the way through to this morning to get me to not hit my goal this morning.
As I walked up the hill that headed toward the steep mountain I heard in broad day light the howling of a coyote. For those of you who do not know the coyote is a symbol for being a trickster. As I stopped and stood by the big evergreen tree I enjoyed the…

Today, I worked out in a different spot up in the mountain. Took at longer walk with my 10 pound pack. I wanted to work out in the shade of the morning. The reason, I worked in the hot sun yesterday. I did not want to toast myself for the day. What I like about the spot it was a gravel hill with plants on the sides and in the middle. This would be a fun challenge.
I also had a plan to work my forms facing different directions today. My favorite part of my forms workout today…

Hi Friends
The Monsanto GMO tainting of the Oregon wheat crop due to field testing a decade ago requires the following actions by the State of Oregon:
1. Call an immediate moratorium on field testing of any GMO crop in Oregon;
2. Reaffirm the 110-year-old mission of the Oregon State Land Grant University to conduct practical agricultural research and offer it free to…

Today was a good day. I remembered to breath, I focused on being strong, legs felt a little better and the sun was just glorious.
Nothing better in the world (for me) is to be up a mountain looking at a view, as the morning sun is shining especially while you are working out.
The herbs I used in my tea this morning were a bit stronger and were for keeping my immune system strong.
It looks like if I keep my forms schedule up I will be testing in about 3 to 4…
