Health Tip Of The Day February 24, 2012

Health Tip Of The Day: Organic Pumpkin seeds are 30% protein, rich in iron, calcium, phosphorous and zinc. Us them for snacking, mixed with sunflower seeds. Use them whenever you would use nuts.

Nuts and seeds contain numerous enzyme inhibitors that can put a real strain on the digestive mechanism if consumed in excess.  Nuts and seeds are easier to…

What's on today's menu

As it turns out, I AM getting a cold. This calls for extra good food! Breakfast is the smoothie with various dark berries, superfood, pollen and hemp. Lunch is pumpkin soup leftover, and dinner will be homemade sauerkraut with organic sausages and organic taters. Homemade blackberry wine may accompany that, in moderation. Alcohol and colds don't seem to mix very well, I just get too stuffed up.

My Thoughts For Today

HAVING MINDFUL TEA MOMENTS, Is what gives me peace and health.  Just wondering what other people do.

I CAN ONLY HOPE PEOPLE STOP CONSUMING AND BEING SO WASTEFUL, THAT THEY THINK ABOUT THEIR PURCHASES AND WHERE  THEY END UP SOME DAY.  MOST OF IT NEVER GOES AWAY.  THAT IS TO MUCH WASTE FOR THIS PLANET.  Every time I go to the dump I think about the things I have bought…

Fermenting foods

I love fermented foods, and they love me. I also love the fact that they require no electricity (no pollution!) to make. Our favorite is sauerkraut. We use a three-gallon crock and 10-12 heads of cabbage. Our crock has a lid with a water seal, so gas can escape, but outside air can't get in. We shred the cabbage (I'm so old-fashioned I just use a knife) and put a layer in with some kosher salt and smash it down, then another layer with salt, etc... When you have enough, put a stone weight on… Continue

HEALTHY TIP OF THE DAY

Health Tip Of The Day: Don't---Don't-- substitute artificially sweetened foods for the sugared variety. The idea, after all is to retrain your taste buds so that you no longer experience a craving for sweets. Secondly, you want to build good health. Artificial sweeteners of all kinds are highly toxic and cause cancer

greenhouse

We just finished building our hoophouse, which is tall enough for me to walk through without bending, and has doors on both ends. It's really big! Now we can start our greens much earlier, as well as get better harvests and extend our season after summer. We're getting close to growing all we really need, though it is nice to buy wonderful cheeses and fancy foods once in a while.

A hill with weights!

HEALTHY KIDS TIP OF THE DAY

Healthy kids tip of the day, mix veggies into other food dishes. Broccoli, cabbage, collard greens, red peppers, and zucchini to name a few can easily be shredded or grated and added to numerous main and side dishes without suspicion from a veggie-phobic kid. I have even blended the veggies to add to soups. Don't forget you can add zucchini, blended fruits and carrots to homemade breads. Yes, fresh is best, but it is better that kids eat their veggies in some form rather than not at…
