update

This past week I have really felt a sharper focus on training. Part of this is due to the fact that I have completed my final paper for my academics this term. That freed up some time and attention towards

preparing for my black belt test. June 27th may be two months away,

but the date has lit a fire under me. Mr. Bronson has suggested that I start

extending one work-out a week to push up to five hours so my body isn’t shocked

on test…

Go Organic It Is A Must

World pesticide use exceeded 5.0 billion lbs in both 2000 and 2001 (total cost, $64.5 billion) with the United States accounting for 1.2 billion lbs per year at an annual cost of $11 billion. While the totals are staggering, so too is the infinitesimal amount of those five billion pounds a year that actually make it to the target pest - less than 0.1 percent. No one has accounted for where the other 99.9 percent ends up, and it is known these compounds can travel thousands of miles around… Continue

training with Chuck

So I finally was able to network with someone outside of class for the first time today. I joined Chuck in helping him get ready for his black belt test in three weeks. We did our staff flow drill, staff passing lines, trapping lines, stick lines, a little bit of knife lines, and a little bit of empty hand lines. It was great fun. We have a couple more set up before his test and hopefully a few more to come before my test.

I noticed my legs were a little tired still from the stairs… Continue

Training at the beach

Today I was able to substitute my P90X Legs workout with running the stairs at the coast with a twist. The twist is simple and I added it because of the mysterious comments I have been getting from black belts. Mr. Bronson has set the date of June 27th to test me for black belt and everything time a current black belt congratulates me they say something like, "Make sure you are doing your straight blasts." Most won't go any further than that comment, so I decided to just get comfortable with… Continue

update on training and goals

I was reading through some of my past blog posts this morning and revisited my goals for 2010. Man was I encouraged and also saw I need to step it up in planning for one particular goal.

The first goal was to advance towards black by Jan. 1st, 2011. Well due to some serious focus, many private classes, and training everyday with my dummy and staff, I think I will be able to move that goal up to July 1st. I need to talk specific dates with Mr. Bronson, but I have been keeping up on my… Continue

School Videos

So today during my foms training I was stuck and could not remember the next move. Guess what, there are some great videos on this site that help you with that problem. I just looked up one of the forms videos watched it and I was on my way. I actually watched it several times to get it down. It was great having that information right there.

Thanks Mr. Bronson.

Book Camp Nutrition - Food Police

Today I saw a SoBe bottle in the lobby. This time the label was off. I am hoping it meant, it is just a bottle being reused over and over and that the person now knows not to put that terrible stuff in their body. Please read article on Boot Camp Nutrition it is about bad drinks.

Keep yourself healthy, have a great day

MY FORMS GOAL

I am really feeling good about my forms. My stances are getting lower and my legs feel stronger. I want to get a private (LOL) so I can see where I am at and schedule my forms test.

Today's workout:

3 sets of push-ups, 3 sets of dips (20 reps) 1 minute round of Bi Fit Sao, side-lying leg lifts, 3, 5 minute rounds of kickboxing on the heavy bag with 16 ounce glove, 2, 3 minute rounds of straight blast with 16 ounce gloves, 2 sets of huricane kicks, 10 minutes of whirl wind kicks…

The blind man sees- Kung Fu by candlelight

What a quality experience. I gained awareness through blindness. All right, not complete blindness, but reduced visibility. The class presented a rare opportunity to train with others under low light conditions. Although, if you are looking for real training, ask your spouse to take a romanctic moonlit stroll, then when you find a sufficiently dark spot explain that you really just wanted to train Kung Fu in the dark. This will cause your spouse to try to hit you....Voila, instant…

Thanks to Mr. Bronson and the Kung Fu community

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in class on Thursday at 6:00pm this week. The 11 guys that I brought had a great time and loved learning with all of you. A handful are interested in joining me on Monday too to see if they can find a way to fit this into their regular schedule!

I especially wanted to thank Mr. Bronson for being so hospitable and encouraging to the guys. They saw your strength and your desire to make everyone better. We are still laughing about how you pointed… Continue

a great day of morning training

Ava played independently for a long time this morning allowing me to work through my double sticks, stick and dagger, single stick, cover and slash, and knife lines. Rest weeks allow me put extra time into my material.

Speaking of extra time, last night was the first night in 5 days that I was able to practice on Mr. Bronson's dummy. I have been a little worried that just practicing on my heavy bag wasn't producing much muscle memory, but I wrong! I was able to go twice as fast with… Continue

A week in review

I have reached a rest week within my at home work-out ... though I love how the rest week really is just a change in flow. Normally my week has a chest/shoulder/tri, legs, back/bis, yoga, kempo and plyrometics with core on three of the seven days. This week is yoga, core synergistics, kempo, and stretching. Every fourth week is a rest week. I also continuing to train in the mornings on the hill outside our place for the mountains.

Also, a little update on my red belt material. I have… Continue

Boot Camp Nutrition

Today I was getting ready to workout and I noticed some bottles in the school. They had been reused for water which is great . So first let me tell you something about me. I have been teaching nutrition for a long time and because of this I am a big label reader. Yes, if something is left here I pick it up and read the ingredients and then say how could people eat or drink this stuff! So it is great the bottles were reused but why would anyone put this junk in their body? I am going to be hard… Continue

Stay On My Path

Ok, I got through my workout and even worked out for 2 hours. For my forms I got a little lost on a couple of them so I worked on Mantis Grab a lot, I figure with the low movements that would be great for my legs. I also did Pow Choi several times really low. I did almost 10 minutes of whirl wind kicks. My workout consisted of 3 sets of push-ups, 3 sets of dips (20 reps) kickboxing, 2 rounds of straight blast with 16 oz gloves on for a little over 2 minutes, straight legs kicks, and of…

Forms

Today I will be doing an hour of forms, maybe a little more. Just pushing to get to that first forms test then I will learn Seven Kicks. My goal is to do seven kicks with Dakota on the Performance team and then get to my second degree forms test. The girls are working on their black belt material. They are doing a great job.

Women Only Target Shooting

Well Sunday was great. The group was large, there was 10 women and we had some sun, Wow! This get together was not a class that was taught by an instructor but to come and dust off your gun and practice. It was for women to support each other and have fun. We did have just a couple of women who showed up to shoot who have never shot a gun before, so guns were shared. It was great watching them as they shot a few times, my shot gun seemed to be the conversation piece, it has a big kick. Most of… Continue

New classes, new outside training

I took my first class with everyone last night on the kicking and punching lines. It was so fun and a great work-out. Now that we have moved into a new section, I need to shift things around with what I work on at home.

Instead of taking a special day to train kicks once a week, I am moving joint locks and hubud tho that day. I can't tell if Carla is excited about this change. I can do free-flow hubud with Shadow (aka Dakota) before class, but she will help me with the joint… Continue

Last Weekends Goals (see blog)

We have been at the school very early today. Jade and Sophia were practicing on their black belt requirements. I was working on forms and performance team routines. We had a performance team practice at 11:00 am and we have another at 7:30 pm.
I did all the things I said I would do last weekend. That Felt great. I let the family sleep in on Sunday so I figure out how to take a 130lb dog and my horse up all by myself. I was craving being up in the mountains and did not want to wait for…
